My brain is bonkers; totally bonkers, and I am ok with that! But what does it mean? The Urban Dictionary describes ‘bonkers’ as ‘Quite commonly used word, not slang, used to affectionately describe a state of mind.’ So, I am not harsh on myself, honest!
My brain has been driven bonkers because of several years of living with bipolar disorder and a sleep disorder. Perhaps I should describe that as ‘surviving with’, as it can be intolerable at times. I am still here, so I am describing myself as a ‘survivor!’
So how do these illnesses cause my brain to be bonkers? Well, smart as they may be, our brains are so easily duped, deceived and distracted. The illusions and symptoms generated by brain changes in different bipolar episodes do just exactly that and it drives me bonkers! The cognitive impairment caused by the sleep disorder just rubs salt in the wound and makes it a whole lot worse.
The aim of This blog site is to share my experiences with the hope of helping others in similar situations; to amuse and to educate through sharing of the latest research and medical discoveries. I will do this with articles, short stories and poems. I will also be inviting guest writers to contribute to the blog site to keep it varied and fascinating. I look forward to taking you on a journey through the minefield of mental illness and the sluggishness of the sleep disorder and give you an insight into my bonkers brain!
I have posted my blogs by category to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. ย The main categories are Bipolar Disorder, Sleep, Depression and Poems.ย Or you can view all of my blogs on the Posts page.
